How to Light

Pick a light, any light at all
Today, choose an object to light and one light source. Spend ten minutes in a room, preferably one you can darken, experimenting with that light. You can use a lamp with or without it’s shade, a bare illuminated lightbulb, a fluorescent desk lamp, a flashlight with a strong beam, a street, a fire, or even candlelight. Depending on what you choose to light, you can move the light source around the object or move the object around the light. Move the light closer, than further away. Position the light above your subject and below. Shoot all the different lighting setups you create. Observe the differences in the way your photo looks, what you find most pleasing, more dramatic, more flattering. This is way a great way to learn ways to control what your photos look like, instead of just taking what
